Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has asserted that the state government’s decision to withdraw the CBI probe order in the disproportionate assets case against Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is not driven by political motivations.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Parameshwara questioned whether former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s verbal order to the government’s chief secretary to initiate a CBI probe against an MLA during his tenure as Chief Minister was not politically motivated.

“The current advocate general shares the same opinion as the then advocate general,” Parameshwara stated. “Our government has merely taken steps that are legally permissible.”

The home minister clarified that they will inform the court of the cabinet decision and are uncertain about the future course of action. He attributed any disruption to the legal process to the previous government’s hasty decision.
